How to Connect with Your Audience!

Let's be honest, speaking in front of people can be scary. Think back to high school, college, or a recent company meeting and remember how challenging it was to get people engaged with your presentation, while also making sure that you weren't nervous or hard to follow. As we enter a post-pandemic world, having the skills to effectively speak to an audience and having them engage with you will be crucial in setting you apart from your counterparts. Here are a few tips to help you connect with your audience and keep them engaged with your story.

  1. Practice telling your story frequently: Try presenting in front of trusted friends or family and ask for feedback AND continue practicing alone.

  2. Understand how your story can help your audience: Ask yourself what your story can illuminate in their lives. What is your story teaching?

  3. Research the demographics of the area you'll be presenting: Know their regional culture and make sure your story will be impactful to them

  4. Maintain eye contact: This helps keep your audience focused.

  5. Engage with your audience: Ask questions and initiate conversation that fits the environment you are in.

  6. Tailor a story to your audience: Storytelling connects values and ideas amongst your audience. This can have significant influence to unite people.
